Study and Succeed Study Skills
I received my Master of Education degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education in the Mind, Brain, and Education program. My interest in study skills (and how people learn) stems from my personal journey in education.
Organizational habits and study skills did not come to me naturally so I struggled academically for many years. It was common place for me to start studying for a major test the night before or misplace an essay in the black hole that was my backpack. Thankfully, one of my teachers helped me to understand that learning how to study and become more organized would make school easier for me. Not only was she correct, I found that the more I learned about studying, the more enjoyable school became.
My grades went from C’s and D’s to graduating Magma Cum Laude. Much to my surprise, I found that I was excited about school! The more I discovered about learning and the brain, the better my grades, and the more confident I felt. Harvard’s Mind, Brain, and Education program allowed me to continue studying the learning process.
As a teacher and tutor for over 10 years, I know how important study skills are for all students. I recognized the excitement in my students’ faces when their study habits led to academic success. The lessons taught in our workshops and materials are based on cognitive research. I’m passionate about them because I know, first-hand, the difference they can make in improving self-confidence and igniting a passion for learning.
